FQHR JUDGES REQUIREMENTS & APPROVAL

We're always interested in adding to our pool of talented FQHR registered judges. Here are the specific requirements and how you would be approved.

The applicant must be at least 25 years old, a member in good standing with FQHR, be dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Foundation Quarter Horse and own a FQHR registered horse.

judgeshotThere are two types of judges cards. 1) Regular Card – which allows the judge to judge all FQHR events; 2) a Specialty Card – allows the judge to judge specific events - Handy Ranch Horse, speed events, Ranch Riding. Be sure indicate on the application which card you are applying for.

Contact the FQHR office to have a Judges Application sent to you. You can request one by phone (269-649-1106) or email (ten.tsaotg@rhqf ). Complete the application and return it to our office either via email or snail mail (FQHR, Box 165, Vicksburg, Mi 49097). Upon receipt of the completed application, it will be reviewed by the FQHR Judges committee. They may contact the applicant for a phone interview or with additional questions. If the Judges committee believes the applicant would be a good fit for the FQHR, a written exam on the rule book will be sent to the applicant. Upon satisfactory completion of the exam, the applicant will be invited to attend a judge’s seminar and sit with a member of the judges committee while they judge. They may also sit with a judge at the annual World Round Up and Review. Upon completion of the judge’s seminar and sitting with the Judge’s committee member, the Judges Committee will approve or disapprove the applicant as a recognized judge.

Upon approval, the name (and photo) of the applicant will be added to the judges list on the official FQHR website and the FQHR Journal. Approved judges shall be required to retake the written rule book test annually and may be required to attend additional seminars at the discretion of the Judges Committee. Only judges approved by the Foundation Quarter Horse Registry shall be qualified to judge any approved FQHR Roundup or event. All FQHR carded judges must be members of FQHR and hold current individual or joint membership. He/she will be considered delinquent if their membership is not paid within the month following expiration. A judge, delinquent in the payment of membership dues for a period of 60 days after expiration date, will be removed from the list of approved judges and required to reapply for inclusion to the list of approved judges under the current procedure for admission of new applicants. If a judge’s membership has expired they may not judge any FQHR sanctioned event.

Designation as an FQHR approved judge is a privilege, not a right, bestowed by the Judges Committee according to procedures by it, to individuals whose equine expertise and personal character merit the honor. An individual's conduct as a member, exhibitor and judge, and his/her ability must be exemplary and is subject to continual Committee review. Any judge who fails to pay fees owed to the Registry or any of its affiliates (to include entry fees, advertisements or stall fees or any other fee associated with a FQHR activity or event) shall have their judging privileges suspended. Designation as a FQHR Judge for these reasons is revocable by the Judges Committee with or without notice and formal hearing subject only to ultimate review by the FQHR office.
